United States: Coca-Cola has pulled several thousands of cases of the Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade container after the incorrect labeling.
More about the news
Recalled from the market according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a total of 13,151 cases of the Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade have been put back.
This incident came after when cases of cans of regular Minute Maid Lemonade were being placed into cases with Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade labels tagged on them, independent.co.uk reported.
How did the mistake occur?
The two types of lemonades are very distinct when it comes to composition; for instance, one can of the Minute Maid Lemonade contains forty grams of total sugar, fifty milligrams of sodium, and one hundred and fifty calories; on the other hand, the Minute Maid zero-sugar lemonade contains zero grams of total sugar, fifty milligrams of sodium and five calories.
Though the recall for the cases of the zero-sugar lemonade was made on September 10, there was no press release with regards to the same as hailed by the FDA.
The recalled product was delivered to the supermarkets in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. However, the FDA has pointed out that lemonade cases are not in stores anymore.
Alert sent to consumers
As per the independent.co.uk reports, Lemonade cases that have the codes FEB1725CNA and FEB1825CNB can be used to determine whether one has been sold a product that was recalled or not.
Regarding the recall, it was classified as Class II on October 10. FDA said that a Class II recall is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
Nevertheless, the total number of reported food recalls has increased in the last year. In 2023, there were as many as five hundred and six recall points, which had not been observed for five years, according to Sedgwick Brand Protection’s 2024 State of the Nation Recall Index report.
“No impacted product remains in the market, and all recall activities in those markets are complete,” the company added.
