United States: Today’s popular drugs may still be underutilized, as the information given shows. A survey published in the last few days has shown that the majority of adult Americans could qualify to use Semaglutide, which is the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic drugs.
More about the news
Researchers at Harvard and other institutes embarked on the exercise to estimate the degree of impact of such already market-leading drugs.
Using Semaglutide from a nationally representative survey, they modeled that 136.8 million American adults today could be classified as candidates for semaglutide therapy or slightly over the present total adult population in the United States.

A majority of the eligible users would use semaglutide for obesity, but approximately 30 million for type 2 diabetes or to prevent cardiovascular disease – three diseases that cause early deaths and increased health costs, gizmodo.com reported.
Someone has to agree these Semaglutide and other GLP-1 drugs are much Semaglutideive in promoting weight loss than just dieting and exercising.
What more are the experts stating?
These pills are not suitable for everyone, and they have some side effects, but more and more evidence emerges on Semaglutide not only for obesity treatment but possibly for other illnesses such as substance dependence disorders.
However, what is equally regrettable is the fact that the GLP-1 drugs are not cheap.
Currently, there is only one drug that contains semaglutide, which is Wegovy, and its list price is approximately USD 1,300 per month; Ozempic is approved for diabetes but is sometimes prescribed for weight loss. Its list price is approximately USD 1,000 per month.
A significant number of insurance companies, both public and private, also do not offer insurance coverage for these products, at least in part because of these expensive prices, gizmodo.com reported.
As we have seen, the demand and cost of therapy have empowered the black and grey markets demanding genuine drugs, and people transfer their demand for cheaper compounded or fake drugs, which can be dangerous to their lives.
