United States: According to the CDC, the commonly found obesity rate in adults in the US has stagnated. However, the rate of severe form obesity is on the rise.

A report made by the National Center for Health Statistics, a part of the CDC revealed that between the period of August 2021 and August 2023, where the obesity rate noted among adults in the country was around 40.3 percent.

This rate was slighly higher in 2020, standing at at 41.9 percent.

Although a slight decline in the obesity rate is too small to be considered a reversal of the countrywide epidemic of obesity, however, it underlines a significant break from past years, the News York Post reported.

What more has the CDC suggested?

The CDC reports since 2011 have portrayed a constant rise in the portion of adults in the US who are struggling with obesity.

Moreover, the rate of severe kind of obesity has also been on a consistent rise despite a slowing rate in general obesity.

Therefore, the CDC pointed out that despite the direction of the obesity crisis trending, the rate yet remains far too high.

Those with a BMI of thirty or higher are accounted in the obese category. Individuals with a BMI of forty or higher are considered severely obese beings.

As per the CDC, “The prevalence of severe obesity in men (6.7%) was lower than in women (12.1 percent) overall and for each age group.”

Also, one of the long-term goals of the CDC’s national “Healthy People 2030” plan is “helping people eat healthy and get enough physical activity to reach and maintain a healthy weight,” the News York Post reported.

“Healthy People 2030” aims to reduce the rate of obesity to below 38.6% by 2030 but has noted the problem is only “getting worse,” it added.
